A governance perspective for climate change adaptation: Conceptualizing the policy-community interface in Bangladesh

Climate change adaptation is currently an important community concern in developing countries like Bangladesh. The conceptualization of within the government system matters for promotion activities such as employment generation local communities. lesser gap between policy and community’s needs more effective outcomes are ensuring success promoting sustainable livelihoods or vice versa. This interface climate which explored this paper along with findings research project, DEltas, vulnerability change: Migration Adaptation (DECCMA) conducted during 2014–2018 Bangladesh, Ghana, India, United Kingdom. data from Bangladesh was collected 1384 survey respondents, 19 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), 3 workshops, 43 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). show that mainly reflect Reactive Approach Limited Action (RALA) perspective rather than Proactive To (PATA). RALA characterized by piecemeal top-down approaches to fail recognize a change, perspectives coping concerns, governance adaptation. In response, focus on PATA policy, programs, projects approach implemented bottom-up or, other words, perspective. Community participation decision-making processes characteristic model. Local participation, consultation, representation essential parts formulation execution, providing lessons • high priority sustainability. top-down, centralised causes further policy. A (PATA) better can expedite approach.
